The Importance of Branding to Small Businesses
Even the smallest start-up company needs to be clear about its brand. It’s often the case that branding is considered something for the bigger players, but don’t overlook it! It’s what sets your company apart and gives it life and a reason both for customers to engage, and to keep coming back for more. Your branding is your promise to your customer. It tells them what they can expect from your products and services, and it differentiates your offering from those of your competitors. Your brand is derived from who you are as a company, what you aspire to be and what you want people to perceive you to be.
The battle for customers is ever-intensifying, especially online – so standing out and getting your personality and offering out there is both challenging and a must.
So, what is branding?
Branding itself is the process of creating a unique name and image for a product or company. It should have a consistent theme and should aim to create an easily-identifiable and differentiated presence in its marketplace, with a view to attracting clients and keeping them loyal.
The foundation of your brand is your logo. Make sure you have a great one that does not detract from your company’s ethos and mission. Many start-ups decide to create their own, but my advice is always to use a graphic designer or marketing professional to help you – it is worth the investment!
Work too on defining what you want your brand message to be. What does your company of product offer that’s different, why will people want to use it, what’s your company’s mission, what tagline is going to sum up what your company has to offer? These are all things to consider.
